Hinkamp Jewelers Celebrates 70th Anniversary
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The greater Fayetteville community is fortunate that Walter Hinkamp Sr. listened to his wife, Ruthene. In 1955, at Ruthene's urging, Walter and a partner, Robert Tyndall, opened their own jewelry store on Hay Street in Fayetteville's downtown. The Hinkamps and Tyndall had been working together at a 'Jewel Box' store, when they all agreed the local market would be well served by a jewelry store where they could make the most of their expertise and passion for personalized service.Fast forward to August 2025. Hinkamp Jewelers is celebrating their 70th year in business! Today, you'll find the second Hinkamp generation at the store. Owner Walter (Wally) Hinkamp Jr. is at the helm, supported by his sister, Donna Hinkamp Warren. Together with their staff, Hinkamp Jewelers continue to honor their parents’ teachings and still serve customers with the caring touch only a family business can provide.
Over the years, Hinkamp Jewelers has maintained close ties to the community, continuing to provide an exceptional jewelry shopping experience for customers throughout Fayetteville and beyond. After nearly 40 years as a beacon of commerce downtown, the Hinkamps opened a second Fayetteville store in McPherson Square, where operations were consolidated at this convenient location in 1993.
Walter and Ruthene's children had the advantage of growing up in the jewelry business, helping out around the store during summers and after school. Sons Wally and his late brother, David, became business partners with their parents in 1991, and officially took over ownership in 2000. After David's untimely death in 2012, sister Donna stepped in to help. Familiar faces at the store, Wally and Donna are proud to be carrying on their parents' legacy of integrity, jewelry expertise and genuine care for their customers. Wally's years of experience are also backed by his Gemology degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
While Hinkamp Jewelers remains committed to being “Your Diamond Store” (since 1955!), with an outstanding selection of fine jewelry and designer brands, they also keep pace with the latest trends. They offer a wide array of jewelry and watches in every price range, for all ages and any occasion, including 'just because'.
