County Emergency Services Awarded Duke Energy Foundation Grant to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness

The Duke Energy Foundation awarded Cumberland County Emergency Services a $5,000 grant to support community resilience, disaster relief and countywide emergency preparedness efforts.

The funding will support Cumberland County Emergency Services’ upcoming Disaster Preparedness Expo, a one-day community event designed to help residents prepare for emergencies, connect with local resources and receive essential preparedness supplies. The event date will be announced at a later time.

“This grant allows us to further invest in the safety and preparedness of our community,” said Cumberland County Commissioner Henry Tyson. “We are grateful to the Duke Energy Foundation and our local partners who share a commitment to protecting lives and building a stronger, more resilient Cumberland County.” Tyson serves as chair of the County’s Local Emergency Planning Committee, which coordinates emergency preparedness and response planning across the community.

The Expo will bring together County and municipal departments, nonprofit organizations and local employers to provide education, interactive demonstrations and resource navigation in one convenient, accessible location. The event aims to help individuals and families strengthen their readiness before disasters occur.

“The Duke Energy Foundation’s support helps us take a proactive approach to preparedness by bringing critical information, resources and emergency supplies directly to our residents,” said Cumberland County Emergency Management Coordinator Amanda Scheck. “Through the Disaster Preparedness Expo, we are helping ensure individuals and families have both the knowledge and tools they need to respond confidently in an emergency.”

The Duke Energy Foundation supports local organizations that understand their communities’ needs and helps provide resources that strengthen recovery and resilience before and after disasters.
