History of Next Steps Day Treatment
Next Steps Day Treatment was established in 2025 to address the growing behavioral health needs of children and adolescents in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, and the surrounding communities. The program was founded with the belief that every child deserves access to high-quality, evidence-based mental health treatment in a structured, supportive environment that promotes emotional wellness, academic success, and family stability.
Recognizing the increasing demand for intensive community-based behavioral health services, Next Steps Day Treatment was developed to provide a therapeutic alternative that allows children and adolescents to receive comprehensive treatment while remaining connected to their families, schools, and communities. The program was designed in accordance with North Carolina Child and Adolescent Day Treatment (.1400) service standards, emphasizing individualized, person-centered care and collaboration among families, schools, medical providers, and community partners.
The foundation of Next Steps Day Treatment is built upon the principles of compassion, integrity, collaboration, accountability, and excellence. Staff members are dedicated to creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where children and adolescents can develop resilience, build self-confidence, improve decision-making, and learn the skills necessary to be successful at home, in school, and within their communities.
Today, it is our hope that Next Steps Day Treatment continues to foster community partnerships while maintaining its commitment to providing exceptional behavioral health care. By working closely with families, referral sources, schools, managed care organizations, and other community stakeholders, the program remains focused on helping youth overcome challenges, reach their full potential, and take the next step toward lifelong emotional health and success.
