Cumberland County to Host “Remember My Name” Domestic Violence Vigil Oct. 17

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The “Remember My Name” domestic violence vigil will be held

Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. on the steps of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse in downtown Fayetteville. The vigil aims to raise awareness of domestic violence.

 

The keynote speaker will be Archita L. Graves, Sexual Assault Response Coordinator for the XVIII Airborne Corps – Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program for Fort Liberty, NC.

 

Beth Keever, Retired Chief District Court Judge, will read the names of those who have died over the past year in North Carolina as a result of domestic violence.

 

Other vigil ceremony participants scheduled to appear include Toni S. King, Chief District Court Judge, Dr. Toni Stewart, Vice Chairwoman of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, CSM Gregory Seymoure, Command Sergeant Major for the United States Army Garrison Fort Liberty, and the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division All-American Chorus.

 

“Remember My Name” is organized by the Cumberland County District Court, the CARE Center Family Violence Program, Cumberland County Department of Social Services, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Fayetteville Police Department, Hope Mills Police Department, Army Community Services, Legal Aid of North Carolina and the Phoenix Center.

 

The vigil will also serve to highlight community resources for domestic violence victims, such as:
