The BOOKKEEPER is responsible for maintaining financial, accounting, administrative and personnel services.
Position Scope:
The BOOKKEEPER is responsible for preparing financial statements, maintaining cash controls, managing the payroll and personnel administration, maintaining accounts payable, and maintaining accounts receivable.  The BOOKKEEPER must work within by-laws of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Administer and monitor the financial system in order to ensure that financials are maintained in an accurate and timely manner
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Ability to interpret and complete a financial spreadsheet
    • Ability to process payroll and invoices
    • Oversee day-to-day operations
    • Assist with preparation of the fiscal budget
    • Assist with preparation of program and event budgets and closeouts
    • Assist CEO in preparation of cash flow projections
    • Assist CEO with cash flow management of organization
    • Work within approved financial policies and procedures
    • Prepare and reconcile bank statements
    • Ensure data is entered into the system
    • Issue checks to vendor accounts
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
    • Provide information to independent auditors for annual audit
    • Maintain computerized accounting system
    • Maintain financial files and records
  1. Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable system for complete and accurate records.
  • Reconcile the accounts payable and the accounts receivable
  • Prepare journal summaries
  • Reconcile deposits
  • Compile source documents
  • Ensure safeguarding of funds
  1. Human Relations:
    • Manage employee files and records in order to ensure accurate payment of benefits and liabilities.
  • Ensure new employees are properly documented
  • Ensure employee files are properly maintained
  • Oversee administration of benefit entitlements
  • Verify and report benefit payments
  • Verify annual leave records
Manage and perform payroll to ensure that employees are paid accurately and timely.
  • Verify timesheets and hours worked
  • Calculate employee salaries, deductions and contributions
  • Review payroll reports
  • Ensure paychecks are processed and distributed
  • Ensure leave is updated
  • Record payroll entries into computerized accounting system
  • Ensure all payments for benefits are processed as required
  • Ensure federal and state laws are followed
  1. Perform other related duties as required
  • Preferred: An Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, Bachelor’s Degree, or three to five years related experience
  • Experience with computerized accounting programs
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Effective time management skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use Excel
  • Knowledge of non-profit organizations is a plus
